Live Updates from Michigan Madness at Crisler Arena

By Michael Rothstein

Click to follow along with what's going on in Crisler Arena for Michigan Madness, the first time this has happened under John Beilein.

Also, if you have questions, throw them in the comments and I'll do my best to get to them throughout the night.

That's gonna do it here from the live updates. Check back later for more videos and notes and quotes from Michigan Madness.

Men's scrimmage: Ben Cronin hit a three-pointer. So far the highlight three minutes in. At the half: Harris has 6 points. Cronin and Novak have 3, Gibson has 2. Blue (with Harris) leads Maize, 8-6 Harris had a nice adjustment on an alley-oop pass for a bucket early in the second half to give Blue a 13-9 lead. -Manny Harris has more explosiveness. It showed as he just sliced through Michigan's defense over and over again. -Matt Vogrich is going to be a weapon. He has a real smooth consistency on his shot, even when someone is running at him. Final, Blue 28, Maize 17.

10:16 p.m. Women's scrimmage is over. Blue beat Maize, 10-8. Men's scrimmage going to start soon. ___

9:59 p.m. Women's scrimmage is going to start. ___

Zack Novak just won the dunk contest, catching the ball off a pass, putting it through his legs and ramming it home (video later). John Beilein said he'll now allow Novak to dunk in a game.

Dunk contest running: Morris had a catch off the glass for a dunk. Novak might have won early, though, with a bounce and then around-the-world esque dunk. Didn't get a 40, though. Laval Lucas-Perry caught the ball off a pass and dunked it. Sims missed his first dunk and then had a tomahawk.

Darius Morris had Matt Vogrich throw a pass from the stands, he caught it and dunked.

9:52 p.m. Four women's players are judging the dunk contest. Also, official attendance about 3,500. ___

9:49 p.m. Manny Harris and Carmen Reynolds are up now. Reynolds makes one at the buzzer to win with 11. Manny's team won. ___ 9:47 p.m.: Rachel Sheffer and Zack Gibson, who had a chant of 'Kill, Zack, Kill,' when he was introduced, are up now. They hit eight. ___ 9:45 p.m. The couple - Stu Douglass and Courtney Boylan are up. Apparently they are dating. Sam Webb announced them as Mr. and Mrs. Douglass. Neither looked pleased. They hit 10. ___

9:43 p.m. Anthony Wright and Dayeesha Hollins are up. They hit 10 and are the leaders. __ 9:42 p.m. Eric Puls and Sam Werner are up now. They hit seven. ___

9:41 p.m. Vogrich and his partner, Kate Thompson, are up first, finished with eight. ___

9:39 p.m.: Three-point shootout warmup is starting now. My pick here is going to be the freshman, Matt Vogrich, and whomever his partner is. ___

9:35 p.m. Blake McLimas' team is up now. His team is last. McLimas' team wins by one second in 1:21 with a layup from McLimas. Decent cheer for that. ___

9:33 p.m.: Local guy Eso Akunne and his team are up now. Akunne dunked to finish his run and then forgot to tag his teammate. This is a long skills competition. ___

9:31 p.m. Josh Bartelstein and his team are up now. His team finished in 1:24. And an update from Kansas, Bill Self apparently dressed up as Digger Phelps, according to Fran Fraschilla's twitter. ___

9:29 p.m. Ben Cronin and his team are up now. Cronin dunked twice and got the bounce pass in the hoop on the second try. His team finished in 1:22. Cronin said "intelligence" was the reason he was successful. ___

9:26 p.m. Laval Lucas-Perry, Ashley Jones and a Maize Rage student are up now. Lucas-Perry missed the hoop a few times. Finish in 1:46. ___

9:23 p.m. Skills competition is going on now. Jenny Wright, Corey Person and a Maize Rage person are up first. They finish in 1:31. ____ 9:20 p.m. Beilein said he doesn't want to dance next year (we'll have video later), but Sam Webb is doing the MC thing now. And an update from Nicole Auerbach from the Michigan Daily sitting two seats down, Michigan volleyball lost to Penn State in five sets. ___ 9:17 p.m. John Beilein just danced to Jump Around. Kevin Borseth talking now, said he can't wait to see that on SportsCenter tomorrow morning. ____ 9:13 p.m. Players done being introduced. Assistant coaches coming down, dancing right now. ____ 9:07 p.m. Hilarious. They played wedding march for Stu Dougless and and Courtney Boylan, who are apparently dating. Hooray, sense of humor. ___ 9:05 p.m. Big cheer for Darius Morris, the freshman point guard. He did a salute with his female counterpart. ____ 9:02 p.m. Players coming out of the stands. So far, no one has done anything crazy yet but coming down in pairs of men's and women's players. Huge, huge cheer for Eso Akunne, the hometown guy. ____ 9:00 p.m. Lights darkened. Video board showing a video up top. So, here we go. ____ 8:54 p.m. Still more band playing. No sign of players or anything like that. At Syracuse, though via Mike Waters, Jim Boeheim entered the Carrier Dome driving in a police car dressed as a cop. Pretty funny. Hoping Beilein and Michigan will do something like that. Gotta love college basketball season. Oh, in Crisler, the band is playing Sweet Caroline. So, there's that. ___ 8:49 p.m. This just in from the Twitter of Mike Waters at Syracuse, the Orange men's basketball team came into the arena on motorcycles. That's pretty tight. Don't know what's expected at Michigan, but don't think that'll happen. --- 8:42 p.m. More dance team and cheerleader action. Dance team has changed from tank tops to actual uniforms. Still not much more of a crowd here. Certainly not Kentucky or Syracuse (where they've supposedly filled up two full tiers of the Carrier Dome) or Kansas or Michigan State, but it's something. ----

The Crisler floor during the John Beilein Greek Shootout

____

8:30 p.m. Team 4 has won the Beilein Greek Shootout. Beilein gave them small plaques as awards and they are getting a picture with Beilein. That was quick so far. The cheerleaders are coming out now. ____

8:26 p.m. Greetings from Crisler Arena, where the John Beilein Greek Shootout is currently taking place. So far, it's been ugly. One group of fraternity/sorority members were so bad, Beilein - who is chilling at center court - already covered his mouth once watching one of the groups shoot. So far, maybe about 1,200 people here to watch this.
