Last-minute drive gives Pioneer 35-32 win over Inkster

By Rich Rezler

Devin Gardner gave the estimated 7,000 spectators at Rynearson Stadium a fine show Saturday night - even providing some late-game heroics.

But the fireworks weren’t over when the Inkster High School quarterback limped off the bench to throw a fourth-down, go-ahead touchdown pass with 90 seconds left in a Big Day Prep Showdown game with Pioneer.

The Pioneers marched right back down the field in big chunks and upset the state power Vikings 35-32 when sophomore Drake Johnson scored with 35 seconds remaining. (Story and video | Boxscore)

Goldy... you're absolutely right about the 28 points. I inadvertently gave the Vikings a successful two-point conversion in my game notes. The story has been updated. Thank you.. As for Skyline... I assume you mean football in particular, because we have covered the Skyline field hockey team. And we have plenty of varsity-level Skyline coverage planned in the weeks ahead. Our policy is to cover only varsity events, but we're already planning a feature story on the evolution of the Eagles football program at some point later this season.. I'm sorry if you're disappointed in our prep coverage. We had reporters at seven different high school football games this weekend (and that coverage included photos, videos and live chats), we had a reporter at a different high school event every day last week (including volleyball, field hockey, tennis and soccer), and we are including much more in-depth stories on all reports we receive from coaches.. I hope you keep reading and allow us the chance to change your mind!

The facts reported in this article are wrong. The Vikings never had 28 points. AnnArbor.com promised that they would cover more sports and do a better job. I have not seen this. Also why have you not covered anything about Skyline. Yes they aren't a varsity program but, they nearly upset Catholic Central Thursday night.
