Landon Donovan goal thrusts USA past Algeria and atop Group C
Landon Donovan saves the day!
After the referee had added four minutes of stoppage onto the game clock of the game between the United States and Algeria, Donovan was in the right place at the right time 45 seconds in. He collected a Clint Dmpsey rebound to give the U.S. a 1-0 win over Algeria.
The win gave the U.S. its first top seed out of the group stages since 1930.
The Americans advance as the unlikely champions of Group C, while England beat Slovenia to earn the No. 2 slot and a date with Group D champions, Germany.
The U.S. plays Ghana in the Round of 16, which will be a rematch of the teams' game in 2006.

The Donovan game-winner came approximately 45 seconds into extra time, not 2 minutes in.
