Jason Forcier still waiting on eligibility ruling to join University of Michigan football team

By Dave Birkett

Jason Forcier hasn't heard from the NCAA on his request to play for Michigan this year as a graduate student, his family said on its Twitter page Thursday.

"Tate doing well...5 days into camp and Jason is still waiting for acceptance...please pray for good news soon. Thanks!" the post said.

Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez said Wednesday he was hoping to hear by today whether Forcier would be eligible this year.

Forcier, a quarterback, began his college career at Michigan in 2005, played six games as a reserve in 2006, and spent the last two years at Stanford. He graduated with a communications degree and has one season of eligibility left.

Tate Forcier, Jason's youngest brother, is expected to start at quarterback as a true freshman this fall.

If Jason ends up starting then we are really in trouble but if it came down to Sheridan or Jason, I'd probably have to give Jason the nod. Jason will not be on a scholarship but I think he could help out on the practice team, help his brother and if he learns the x's and o's of this offense, maybe a graduate coaching assistanceship may be in his future?

Um, Forcier IS expected to start at Quarterback by pretty much everyone. Nothing wrong with him saying that at all. nice story.

Democracyrox, it seems like you're just looking for an opportunity to attack this company. While saying that Tate is the frontrunner is a bit of an opinion, it is also solid reporting. Most Michigan fans would like to know how some of our players are looking. When something is so obvious and it ties to popular perception, I believe this is accurate reporting. Perception is reality and most, at this point, would be shocked if Tate was not the starter.

So it was Dave editorializing? At least he admits it. And this is allowed why? Because it's a sports story? Because it's the new world of online "journalism?" It's little things like this that cut to the credibility of this grand experiment.

It'd be shocking not to see Tate under center against Western. Then again, I thought the same thing about Threet last season, and sure enough Sheridan was the starter.

Some people just need to step back and relax. Its a pretty commonly held opinion that Tate will be the starting quarterback against Western. I'd be a bit alarmed if Dave had said Sheridan was expected to start. I don't think anyone outside of a few people in Saline want that.

Criticizing Dave for saying Tate is expected to start is silly. He never said the coaching staff expected Tate to be the starter. It is commonly "expected" that Tate will be the starter. Commonly meaning local sports radio and posting boards. Anyway, it'd be cool to see Jason back on the team even if its just for a few emotional shots while Brad Nessler talks about "a brothers love" in the fourth quarter of some game. I remember being really excited about seeing Jason at the Spring game a few years back. Of course I was also excited about Clayton Richard and, sigh Ryan "Drinky-Drivey" Mallet. I can't wait to see D-Rob in person either! I guess I'm just flat out excited period. Go Blue!

That comment about Forcier was my own editorializing. No one on the staff has said anything of the sort publicly, but Forcier is the best QB right now. And the elder Forcier needs to be cleared as a graduate student transfer for immediate eligibility.

jason is a graduate student I don't think he is on scholarship I think he is walking on. he is here more to help his brother out more than anything else. As for Paulus wouldn't want him on this team anyway.

I'm a UM fan, but this stinks. Was Jason's scholarship required to get the brother? This guy's 25 years old...wasn't Paulus available? Good catch on the random, unattributed, "here's your starting quarterback".

And just who, pray tell, on the coaching staff, has said Tate Forcier "is expected to start?"
