Indiana scores 22 runs in baseball sweep at Michigan, U-M softball splits with Illinois and more Sunday results

A season-high 2,455 fans at Ray Fisher Stadium got their money’s worth of offense, but watched the Michigan baseball team drop both games of a doubleheader to Indiana.

The Hoosiers had 26 hits in 11-8 and 11-5 wins. Michigan had 14 hits in each game of the doubleheader, but left 18 runners on base.

Indiana (22-23, 9-6 Big Ten) scored seven runs in the fourth inning to take control of the opening game, chasing Michigan (17-27, 4-11) starter Ben Ballantine in the process. (Boxscore)

The Hoosiers had two more big innings in the second game, scoring four runs in the third and ninth innings. (Boxscore)

Indiana leadoff hitter Justin Cureton was 7-for-10 with two runs and three RBIs in the doubleheader.

Kevin White went 5-for-9 with 5 RBIs and two runs scored for the Wolverines.

Northern Illinois 3, Eastern Michigan 1: Northern Illinois starter Tony Manville limited the to one run on seven hits through 7 1/3 innings. EMU loaded the bases without a hit in the bottom of the ninth but was unable to score. (Details)


Softball

Michigan 2-0, Illinois 1-2: Michigan freshman pitcher Haylie Wagner gave up one run in 6 1/3 innings in the opener and earned herself a win with a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Sara Driesenga, who picked up a save in the first game, took the loss in the second after giving up an unearned run in 3 2/3 innings. Wagner allowed the other run on a wild pitch. Illinois pitcher Pepper Gay limited Michigan to four hits in the second game. (Details)

Ohio 5, Eastern Michigan 4: Ohio took a 4-3 lead on a fourth-inning grand slam by Lauren Gellerman and held on for the MAC road win. Nellie Coquillard went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI for the Eagles. (Details)


Women’s water polo

Michigan 10, Brown 7: Kiki Golden Golden scored five goals for the No. 10-ranked Wolverines in the CWPA Eastern Championship third-place game. Katie Hazelrigg, Audrey Pratt, Lauren Dudley, Claire Ivry and Kelsey Nolan each added a goal in Michigan’s season-ending game. (Details)


Women’s golf

MAC Championships: Eastern Michigan finished fourth and Shannon Warner was seventh individually. Kent State, which had four of the top six individuals, won its 14th straight team title. Ball State’s Jenna Hague beat Toledo’s Piyathida Chaiyapan for medalist honors with a birdie on the first playoff hole. (Results)
