Indiana roundup: Hoosiers want QB Chappell to emerge unscathed

By AnnArbor.com Staff

If you're headed to Michigan's homecoming Saturday and unfamiliar with the current state of Indiana football -- and let's be honest, it's been a while since there's been a reason to closely follow the Hoosiers -- here's a quick rundown on what you need to know about the Hoosiers:

  • Senior left tackle Rodger Saffold says the Hoosiers offensive line is setting a lofty goal for the game. "We don't want our quarterback touched the entire game," he told the Indianapolis Star.
  • The Hoosiers offensive line hasn't been perfect this season, but it has demonstrated significant improvement, writes Ryan Winn for the Indiana Daily Student.
  • Indiana enters the game with a perfect 3-0 record. Here's the recap of the Hoosiers' most recent win, a 38-21 victory over Akron.
  • The Hoosiers enter the game completely healthy, says Dustin Dopirak of the Bloomington Herald-Times.
  • ESPN.com has the early line on some bowl predictions: Indiana returning to the Insight.com bowl and Michigan headed to the Capital One to face Mississippi.
  • IU defensive end Jammie Kirlew loves to crush opposing quarterbacks. He also loves community service, and was presented with a recent award, according to the Indiana Daily Student.
  • Eamonn Brennan has no problem admitting that Michigan's the better team, but not one that Indiana is entirely incapable of beating, he writes in a piece titled "Let's Get Irrationally Excited About Indiana Football!"
  • Indiana's defense ranks second in the Big Ten in stopping opposing offenses on third down. That will be the key Saturday, writes LaMond Pope in the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette.
