Huron boys basketball explodes in second half of win over Saline
Though leading at halftime, the Huron High School boys basketball team was clearly struggling.
The River Rats were shooting just 30.9 percent from the field and, despite their constantly-pressing defense, were allowing Saline's 3-point shooters open looks.
The result: The Hornets were 6-of-9 from 3-point distance and trailing just 34-29.
"I think in the first half we got frustrated because we weren't doing well offensively and we had to remind ourselves at halftime that we are a defensive team and that we get offense from our defense," said Huron coach Waleed Samaha.
The reminder worked.
The River Rats opened the third quarter with a 10-0 run, which included 3 straight possessions in which they scored on uncontested layups off of turnovers.
Saline didn't come within 10 points of the lead again all night as Huron won both teams' first Southeastern Conference matchup 82-52. (Rest of the story & photo gallery | Boxscore)

Way to go River Rats! By the way their coach, Waleed Samaha, is an incredible teacher. For four years he guided and served the Huron Class of 2003 as Asst Principal. I've never witnessed such dedication and loyalty. That class earned one of the highest overall GPAs in Huron's history because of Samaha's guidance and direction. I bet his basketball teams work just as hard to make him proud too.
