Greenhills beat Willow Run 25-14, 25-22 and 25-10. Whitmore Lake had no trouble knocking off Dearborn Heights International Star Academy 25-6, 25-8 and 25-6.
For Greenhills, it is the first time the school has won a match in districts in four years.
"That was a milestone and a good thing for the girls," said Greenhills coach Tiffany Willard. "We came out with intensity and a little bit of spirit. It was nice to (win in) three straight and gain some confidence. At this point in the season we need the confidence."
The win was especially significant for Greenhills senior Viggy Parr. Parr has been a starter for the Gryphons since she was a freshman, so she was elated to finally get her first win in district competition.
"She was almost in tears today," Willard said of Parr.
Parr had a big hand in the victory for Greenhills, especially with her service. Parr recorded 11 aces, 11 assists, six kills, and three digs on the night. With her team leading 18-10 in the final set, Parr took her turn to serve for the Gryphons and never left as the Gryphons scored seven more straight.
"I am so extremely excited, I can't even express it," Parr said. "My whole entire team is incredibly excited."
