Pioneer boys golf adjusts to weather, edges Huron; Pioneer girls lacrosse routs Saline and more Wednesday results
Any self-respecting golfer in the state of Michigan knows spring golf means coming prepared. One day it could be hot, the next cold. One minute it could be windy and rainy then sunny and calm.
The Huron and Pioneer experienced all of the above at the University Michigan Golf Course on Wednesday, starting in shorts and t-shirts, ending in pants and sweatshirts, and in need of ponchos and wind breakers in between.
"It was tough for both teams. We played through three seasons, spring, summer and fall," said Huron coach Dee Drake.

Pioneer adjusted better to the conditions on its home course, coming away with a 162-167 win to stay undefeated in SEC play. Nolan Maezes led Pioneer (5-0) with a one-over 37.
"Nolan's 37 was just stellar," said Pioneer coach Brian Miller. Maezes birdied the third hole despite a tough pin placement and was one-under after five. "He played pretty solid."
Zach Averill shot a 39 for the Pioneers while Scott Wilson (40) and Alex Wunderlich (41) turned in Huron's low scores.
After Huron's defeat of Temperance-Bedford on Monday, Pioneer sits alone atop the SEC standings as the only undefeated squad. Saline and Bedford each have one loss
"It was a good win because our league is so tight. We kind of expected Temperance-Bedford to put the squeeze on everybody, but its up for grabs," Miller said. "And we still have to play Saline, Tecumseh, Bedford. Should be interesting."
