Video of Michigan hockey's Andrew Copp discussing time as Skyline QB with NHL.com
High school football fans in Ann Arbor still remember when Andrew Copp wasn't the alternate captain for the Michigan hockey team, or the fourth round NHL draft pick of the Winnipeg Jets. Even before Copp was the first Skyline High School student to join the Team USA National Team Development Program, he was a member of the first class at Skyline and the football team's four-year starting quarterback.
Copp discussed his gunslinging high school football days with NHL.com, specifically the 52-49 loss Skyline suffered against crosstown rival Pioneer his senior year. Copp threw for a state-record 557 yards and seven touchdowns in that game, but he'd trade them all for a win.

The loss still haunts Copp, who said he still thinks about the game about once a week.
Copp's feelings toward the game haven't changed in the almost two years since it passed. After the loss, Copp didn't look or sound like a quarterback who had just set a state record.
"It's heartbreaking right now," Copp told AnnArbor.com at the time.
Copp wasn't the only big name in that game as it also featured a 394-yard, six rushing touchdown performance from Michigan running back Drake Johnson, then at Pioneer, and an eight catch 216 yard, two touchdown performance from Purdue wide receiver Jordan Woods, then at Skyline.
There was also allegedly a tackle sometime in the third quarter.
Copp also discussed having to trade his cleats for skates eventually among other things.
