with poll: Still two days left to vote for the Week 3 high school football 'Game of the Week'
It may be a holiday, but we’re still working hard on determining the AnnArbor.com high school football "Game of the Week."
A vote today, on Labor Day, is worth two.
Well, not really, but it should be.
The voting for Game of the Week is open until Tuesday at 6 p.m., and with two days remaining the Skyline vs. Lincoln game at Skyline High School on Friday is so far ahead it has me questioning if there has been some tampering with the ballot box.
The game between the Eagles and Railsplitters has garnered 642 of the 857 votes (74.9 percent) since the voting opened on Friday night. In a distant second is Saline’s game against Adrian at Saline High School with 136 votes (15.9 percent).
Lincoln, Skyline and Saline fan bases and players all have reason to be excited heading into this week, which is the first week of league play in the Southeastern Conference. All three won their respective games by considerable margins last week -- Saline by 35 over Ypsilanti, Skyline by 27 over Dexter and Lincoln by 21 over Huron in the Week 2 Game of the Week.
An interesting coincidence about all three of those games: the losing teams all scored exactly 14 points. In both Saline and Lincoln’s case, they were ahead 35-0 with a running clock before allowing their respective opponents to score. In third, fourth and fifth place in the Week 3 poll are the Pioneer at Dexter game (47 votes, 5.5 percent), Chelsea at Bedford game (22 votes, 2.6 percent) and Detroit Allen Academy at Willow Run game (10 votes, 1.2 percent)
Though the Skyline and Lincoln game is far ahead, with two days left to vote, it’s still anybody’s game. So vote early and vote often to make your team’s game the Game of the Week.
A reminder that the winner of the poll gets the Super Bowl treatment from AnnArbor.com with two reporters and a photographer at the game. A live chat will also take place, which readers can participate in on-site by downloading an application for their iPhone or Android mobile device.
