When the all-freshmen Skyline High School basketball team won its first-round district game last season, it was considered a huge surprise.

And it was again Monday when the mostly sophomore (with a few freshmen mixed in) squad gutted out a 51-49 overtime victory over Tecumseh in a Class B district at Chelsea High School.

"We believe we're going to win and we're going to compete," Skyline coach Mike Lovelace said. "We've had some really close games the last three weeks and we've pulled just about all of them out. They felt like no matter what happened they were going to win and they did it."

The second-year Eagles, now 5-0 against varsity competition, advance to play Milan (9-11) in a district semifinal at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Chelsea.

Late in overtime, Jordan Woods stepped up when Skyline needed him. Trailing 49-48, Woods took a pass from Theron Wilson and laid it in for a 50-49 lead with 3.4 seconds remaining.

Tecumseh attempted a length-of-the-court pass, but Woods stole it and was fouled with 0.2 seconds remaining. He hit one of two free throws for the final points.
