Caleb Wittig

School: Saline
Class: Senior

Notable: Caleb Wittig led the way all season for a Saline team that was among the best in the state all year long. The Hornets finished fifth as a team at the Division 1 state championships, won a regional championship and finished runner-up in its district. Wittig had a 76.6 scoring average, was medalist in his regional, finished second at the district tournament, won an individual SEC title and was medalist at the Onsted Invitational. Wittig’s stellar season did not end on a high note as a high score on the first day of competition at the state tournament left him out of the running for a top 10 finish. “The first round wasn’t what he was hoping for, just had a couple bad shots here and there, but his attitude was good and he came back the second day and made up a lot of ground,” said Saline coach Debbie Williams-Hoak. Wittig was Saline’s low scorer in 11 of 16 events, winning or finishing tied for first five times and was three times a runner-up. “He’s a special young man on the course and off,” Williams Hoak said. “He’s a very consistent player.” Wittig will attend Miami University in the fall where he hopes to try out for a walk-on spot.
