Saline, Huron and Pioneer water polo reach regional semifinals
The Michigan Water Polo Association postseason continues to roll on as planned.
Like last weekend's district tournament, Friday night's first round of the East Regional being held at Pioneer High School played out just as the seeding predicted.
That was bad news for Skyline, which lost 13-1 to top-ranked and unbeaten Okemos.
But it's good news for three other Washtenaw County teams.
No. 2-ranked Saline got four goals apiece from Stephanie Bundas and Alli Littlejohn to beat Birmingham Seaholm 13-4.
The Hornets will take on Pioneer in a 10:30 a.m. semifinal on Saturday after the hosts beat Troy by a 5-3 score. Diana Steele had two goals for the Pioneers.
The 11:45 a.m. semifinal will feature Okemos against Huron, which beat Birmingham Groves 8-3. Kelcy Barott had a hand in seven of those points, finishing with four goals and three assists.

Friday night's four winning teams automatically qualify for the eight-team state championship tournament to be held June 4-5 at Saline High School.
Saturday's regional consolation (3:30 p.m.) and championship (4:45 p.m.) games will determine seeding for the finals.
AnnArbor.com reporter Pete Cunningham will cover Saturday's regional action. Check back Saturday night for details.
