One Southeastern Conference champion led the league all season long, the other pulled off an upset.
Saline High School, undefeated in league play, took first place at the SEC girls golf championships to run away with -- and defend -- its Red Division title. Meanwhile, Dexter, third in its division standings heading in, squeezed out a two-stroke win over league-leading Tecumseh, propelling the Dreadnaughts to an SEC White crown Wednesday at Eagle Crest Golf Club in Ypsilanti.
The Hornets totaled a 336, finishing 22 strokes ahead of second-place Temperance Bedford (358) in the Red Division standings. Pioneer took third (376), followed by Monroe (423) and Huron (489).
“I’m really pleased that the girls finished up the season well, because they played well in the conference all fall,” said Saline coach Betsy French. “They wanted to finish strong and they did. It was a good score that they shot, especially since it’s a pretty difficult course.”
