Notre Dame breaks even in Ann Arbor; Pontiac Notre Dame Prep tops Gabriel Richard in high school football

Saturday was not a good day to be the Fighting Irish in Ann Arbor, but Notre Dame ended up breaking even.

Hours before Michigan’s thrilling 35-31 win over Notre Dame, the Father Gabriel Richard High School football team lost to Pontiac Notre Dame Prep, 48-22.

Both schools’ mascot is the Fighting Irish.

Gabriel Richard gave up 27 points in the second half, including 20 in the fourth quarter, to its Detroit Catholic High School League rival. Gabriel Richard trailed just 21-14 at halftime, but the second half -- particularly the fourth quarter -- was dominated by Notre Dame Prep.

Ashton Hundley led Gabriel Richard with 72 rushing yards as five Fighting Irish backs combined for 250 yards on the ground. Gabriel Richard quarterback Joe Kendzicky was 11-of-23 passing for 111 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.
