The Pioneer softball team celebrates after winning the 16th annual Stacy M. Shaieb Tournament at Bloomfield Hills Lahser High School.

Bloomfield Hills Lahser may host the Stacie Shaieb Softball Tournament, but Ann Arbor Pioneer owns it in every other sense. After bringing home the trophy two years in a row, the Pioneers made it a three-peat in style Saturday with three straight shutout victories, including a 5-0 win over Carleton Airport in the final.

"We had an incredible day," said Pioneer coach Elissa Brode. "It was a special day, there were really key hits at key times."

Pioneer senior Carly Carn-Saferstein had a home run in the Pioneers' (4-3) 9-0 defeat of Lahser to start the day, then double and a single in their 8-0 win over Madison Heights Bishop Foley. She completed the day-long cycle with a triple against Airport.

Carn-Saferstein also had six RBIs and what Brode described as an amazing diving play at second base.

"We've been working on taking care of the ball," Brode said. "Defensively, our players really wanted to get dirty today."

Rachel Mann was the winning pitcher in the first game, giving up just three hits. Kelly Wier won the final two games of the day, giving up two hits against Foley and five against Airport. Neither Wier or Mann walked a single batter all day.

"(Weir's) ball was just moving, she was really hitting her spots," Brode said.

Congratulations to Pioneer! And BTW, Lahser is in Bloomfield Hills - not Birmingham, and is called Bloomfield Hills Lahser High School. (I went to school in that area).
