Pioneer-Monroe rematch highlights local high school football playoff matchups
The Pioneer High School football team ruined Monroe's bid for a perfect season with a double overtime win back in Week 7. On Friday, the Pioneers will have the opportunity to end the Trojans' season outright.
The MHSAA announced its playoff pairings on Sunday and the rematch between the Southeastern Conference Red Division rivals is one of three games to be played inside the borders of Washtenaw County.
Pioneer will host Monroe while Manchester hosts Leslie in Division 6 and Father Gabriel Richard hosts Capac in Division 5. The area's other two playoff teams -- Lincoln and Chelsea -- will hit the road to start the postseason.

MONROE (7-2) AT PIONEER (7-2)

Date/Time: 7 p.m. Friday.
Meet the opponent: The third-place team in the Southeastern Conference Red Division. Pioneer beat Monroe 28-21 in Week 7 and the Trojans lost to Temperance Bedford, 42-21, in Week 8.
Winner plays: Temperance Bedford (6-3) vs. Brighton (8-1) winner
LINCOLN (6-3) AT WYANDOTTE ROOSEVELT (8-1)

Date/Time: 7 p.m. Friday.
Meet the opponent: Champions of the Downriver League, Roosevelt was ranked No. 4 in the last Division 2 AP poll, but lost its season finale 21-18 to Southgate Anderson.
Winner plays: Brownstown Woodhaven (6-3) vs. Southgate Anderson (7-2) winner.
CHELSEA (7-2) AT RIVERVIEW (8-1)

Date/Time: 7 p.m. Friday.
Meet the opponent: The Huron League co-champions’ only loss came to Carleton Airport in Week 2. In the playoffs for the first time since 2004.
Winner plays: Adrian (5-4) vs. Carleton Airport (8-1) winner.
CAPAC (6-3) AT FATHER GABRIEL RICHARD (7-2)

Date/Time: 1 p.m. Saturday.
Meet the opponent: Third place in the Blue Water Area Conference. Making their third consecutive playoff appearance.
Winner plays: Clawson (6-3) vs. Almont (8-1) winner.
LESLIE (7-2) AT MANCHESTER (8-1)
(Division 6 bracket)
Date/Time: 7 p.m. Friday.
Meet the opponent: Tied with Hillsdale for the Southern Michigan Activities Association title. Lost to Hillsdale (a team Manchester beat, 26-13) and Grass Lake (which handed Manchester its only loss).
Winner plays: Hillsdale (6-3) vs. Grass Lake (9-0) winner.
