Pioneer led 50-42 with about four minutes to go, but Country Day finished on an 18-2 run to beat the Pioneers (1-2) by a score of 60-52 in Ann Arbor.

"We outplayed them really from start to finish in terms of our effort," Pioneer coach Rex Stanczak said. "We rebounded the ball well in spite of our height disadvantage."

The Pioneers led 44-39 after three quarters and extended the lead to eight midway through the fourth before the roof caved in. Stanczak compared the game to his team's other loss, at Ypsilanti, where Ypsilanti used Pioneer turnovers to put the game out of reach.

"We couldn't get a shot at the basket, we kept turning the ball over," Stanczak said of Tuesday's finish.

Jimmy Holman scored 20, including six 3-pointers, for Pioneer. Ja'Korey Davis scored eight and Grant Schaefer seven. Jordan Price, a 6-7 senior who has signed with DePaul, led Country Day in scoring with 10 points.

The Flyers (1-2) turned the ball over 17 times in the first half and had 25 for the game.

"We got caught with our energy level back on the bus," Woods said.

Jamal Poplar had 21 points, eight rebounds and three blocks for Willow Run.

"He's giving us what we need every night," Woods said. "He's very consistent. I have to now find other guys to be consistent to go along with that."

The Gryphons trailed 32-29 at half, were still down three to begin the fourth quarter and got within one with about three minutes to go before Franklin pulled away.

Wright was happy with his team’s best offensive output of the year.

"I think we did a good job of going away from Andrew and coming back to him," Wright said. "We got more guys involved even though he had his biggest night."

Jalen Walker scored 20 for Franklin, which made 11 free throws in the fourth quarter.
