Pioneer girls hockey team finally gets the best of Grosse Pointe South

By AnnArbor.com Staff

The Pioneer girls hockey team has known nothing but defeat against Grosse Pointe South for the past four years, and lost to them in back-to-back state finals in 2008 and 2009.

Those losses made the Pioneers’ 5-2 win over the Blue Devils at City Sports Center in Detroit all the more sweet on Thursday.

Pioneer got on the board first with a power play goal from Shelby Supica late in the first period, but Grosse Pointe South took a 2-1 lead after back-to-back goals in the second.

Pioneer’s seniors refused to let their careers end without having beaten their nemesis, though, accounting for every single point of Pioneer’s next four goals.
