League championship basketball games postponed due to weather; hockey playoffs still on
Updated at 4:30 p.m. to include that Lincoln has now postponed its varsity basketball game against Tecumseh.
We’ll have to wait another two days to find out if Pioneer and Huron can grab shares of the SEC Red boys basketball title.

Bedford is currently one game up in the standings on both Huron and Pioneer. A Huron win will give the River Rats a share of the league title. Pioneer needs to beat Saline coupled with a Huron win for a share of the title. The Pioneers handed Bedford its only league loss of the season last Tuesday.
Bedford's Jackson Lamb scored 33 points and had 10 rebounds against Pioneer last week and Bedford beat Huron 75-65 when the teams played on Feb. 1.
As of Tuesday afternoon, only one of the seven boys basketball games involving Washtenaw County teams were scheduled to go on as scheduled: Greenhills’ game at Arbor Preparatory Academy.
The Southeastern Conference has canceled all of its crossover games, originally scheduled for Thursday, and all of Tuesday’s cancellations have been postponed to Thursday: Pioneer at Saline, Monroe at Skyline, Temperance Bedford at Huron, Ypsilanti at Chelsea Dexter at Adrian and Tecumseh at Lincoln.
Four pre-regional boys ice hockey games scheduled for Tuesday will go on as scheduled: Huron will take on Pioneer at 5 p.m. at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube, and Skyline vs. Carleton Airport will follow. Father Gabriel Richard will take on Chelsea at the Arctic Coliseum at 5 p.m., followed by Dexter vs. Jackson Lumen Christi

The crossover games are fun but easily expendable when the championships are on the line. Was this easy-to-cancel feature a part of the thought process when the series was created? Or is that giving the AD's too much credit?

Yes, the scenario you described really would have been the only feasible one given the girls district schedule. Now, teams that want the additional Saturday game can still add it to the schedule -- Lincoln and Skyline finalized a game this morning -- and teams that don't want it can opt for the off day. Losing the crossovers isn't ideal, but I don't think it's a huge loss. The girls crossover I saw last week just didn't have the intensity that a league game or a district game does.

Kyle Yes it was potentially getting messy. With the girls districts on M-W-F I was think - as apparently you were - the best option would have been leaving that alone; move the boys Tues games to Thurs; and the boys Thurs games to Sat. Better still is the what they have done, so none of the boys teams enter their district play next week without a traditional week-end rest.

I can't say for sure, but I know it didn't take long before the decision to scrap all crossovers was made. I'm glad this is the decision that was come to, instead of trying to cram championship games Thursday and crossovers Saturday to make a hectic week more hectic.
