MLive announces the Michigan High School Football Player of the Year honor that will seek out the best of the best

By MLive Media Group

It is finally happening.

After countless talented football players from multiple generations have graced the football fields across Michigan, the MLive Media Group is stepping in to give high school fans across the state what they have been waiting for.

This fall, we announce the Michigan Football Player of the Year presented by MLive.

Saline's Tyler Palka, pictured above, was the AnnArbor.com Player of the Year in 2012. This year's regional player of the year will be in the running for the Michigan High School Football Player of the Year award.

This honor will finally settle which player should be recognized in the state. No matter if they are freshman or senior, quarterback or kicker, we want to know which player is the best.

We know this is no easy task and we are not taking it lightly.

Our statewide preps team has reached out across the state to coaches and media members - within and outside of MLive - to create a comprehensive panel that will have a say in the process. Also, we have not forgotten the fans. There will be plenty of ways for you to get involved.

We will start with our statewide player watch list and revisit it each week based on player performances. We think our list will change a lot during the season.

With commenting now available on all high school stories on the MLive High School Sports Network, we also want your input. Michigan is a bigger state than you may think and some of the best players could fly under the radar. Now, your voice can be heard, too.

As we wind down to the end of the season, our coaches and media committees will help narrow the field to a select group of finalists that the fans will be able to have a say in as well. Ann Arbor is represented on the media committee by AnnArbor.com's Pete Cunningham and Kyle Austin while Chelsea coach Brad Bush and Father Gabriel Richard coach Brian Lemons will represent the region on the coaches committee.

You already might have someone in mind, and it is never too early to let us know.

To show you how serious we are, here are all of the coaches and media members that have committed to the process of creating one of the most exciting prep sports honors in the state of Michigan.
