The Manchester High School wrestling team is dealing with some early-season health issues, but were still strong enough to score two convincing victories at a quad at Saline High School Wednesday night.

Manchester beat Milan 55-17 in their first match, and then defeated Saline 57-21.

Both Milan and Saline split their two contests, as they both defeated Clinton.

It was the first match of the season for all the teams involved.

Manchester coach Steve Vlcek said his team had a number of kids wrestling up in weight class due to injuries. The Flying Dutchmen were missing top heavyweight Dylan Neff, and a number of other starters, but Manchester had plenty of other wrestlers to step in.

"We're down about four or five starters, but we've never had depth like this in the past," Vlcek said. "They did what they were supposed to do tonight."
