Manchester High School senior Dylan Neff wrestled for just 74 seconds Wednesday.
That’s all the time the Flying Dutchmen heavyweight needed to tangle with, and pin, a pair of opponents at the MHSAA Division 4 team regionals. Neff’s quick pin work was a microcosm of Manchester's domination, as they defeated New Haven (66-9) and Sand Creek (49-19) to claim the regional championship in Manchester.
“I just get in, do my job, and get out,” said Neff, who pinned New Haven’s Brandon Aguinaga in 50 seconds and Sand Creek’s Gabe Beaubien in 24 seconds. “Everybody knew that we had to come in and wrestle hard to be able to go to the state tournament.”
Manchester advances to the D4 state quarterfinals Friday, Feb. 25, at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek. Quarterfinal pairings will be announced by the MHSAA on Sunday.
“They came out ready to wrestle today and I was really happy for them - they’ve been working hard all year,” said Manchester coach Steve Vlcek.
In their opening win over New Haven, the Dutchmen received five forfeits and posted five pins to easily move on to the regional championship. Meanwhile, Sand Creek took down Webberville, 60-21, to set up the title bout between the Dutch and the Aggies.
