Splitter Nation apparently grew stronger over the summer break.

Our first AnnArbor.com/Mlive.com Game of the Week football poll opened Monday with the first day of fall practice. And Lincoln High School fans immediately took hold of it and unleashed their might.

As of noon Friday, four days into the poll, we’ve recorded more than 3,300 votes. That number already surpasses any poll during the 2012-13 school year -- and school isn’t even in session yet.

Nearly 60 percent of those have been for Lincoln and their opener against Belleville at 7 p.m., Friday Aug. 30.

The early returns aren't surprising. The Splitters won four of our nine regular-season football polls last year, and are off to a strong start in our first one this year behind their typical strong social media presence.

But we’ve got an extended preseason polling period for our first poll -- the poll remains open until Tuesday, Aug. 27, two days before season openers kick off.

That means there’s plenty of time for teams to take a run. Milan and Ypsilanti, the only all-Washtenaw County game in Week 1, is the closest so far, with nearly 600 votes.

But every other area team is also in our first poll of the season, the party poll, and the party is just getting started.

It grew over the Summer, probably due to the fact more kids will be in the school district after the YHS/WR merger.

The team didn't get any of the YHS/WR kids to everyones surprise. The Nation grew because of the talent at that school is off the map. Go to Maxprep to look at this roster, the size alone of these kids is impressive, with talent to match. Look for Lincoln to go 7-2 in the regular season.

4 out of 9 games last year? Would have been more had annarbor.com not taken them off as a choice last year some weeks! Go Splitter Nation!
