This is a football team, operative word, team. Most of the time players drive the rituals pre and post game. athletics, especially football, teaches young men how to be part of a team and how to work hard to achieve a goal. Football games and practices are never easy and young men who stick with the program gain much needed confidence in themselves.

I guess since they prayed but lost they must not deserve the ear of the almighty?! Brother Rice must have a more direct channel?! I agree with Chaz H to some degree, but at the same time, the whole godhead/sports outcome connection has become so much a part of popular culture that I don't know that it has any more meaning than other less charged huddle rituals. Still, I would hate to think that it has any truly religious tone to it. More instances of why the big spending on varsity sports by the public schools should be questioned.

"Pre-game prayer?" I thought Ann Arbor Pioneer was a public school. This is unacceptable. If conservative tax dollars will not go to help pay for women's health care, my tax dollars will not go to religion in public schools. "God has no place within the walls of [a public school], just as facts have no place within organized religion." - Superintendent Chalmers

O give it a rest. Prayer or player whats the diff? They prayed while they played and lost. This is the pre games. Wait until the real games start. Pioneer will whip them booties clean. Go Purple and White from one alum to another.
