Images from Huron field hockey's 2-1 win over Pioneer in state championship rematch

By Pete Cunningham

In a rematch of last year's field hockey state championship game, Huron High School senior Taylor Standiford broke a 1-1 tie with two minutes, 11 seconds remaining as the River Rats defeated Pioneer at Hollway Field 2-1 on Wednesday.

Goal scoring opportunities were as hard to come by as a dry seat on a rainy night in Ann Arbor as the teams played to a scoreless first half without any threatening shots on either goal.

A scramble in front of the Huron net following an Eliza Stein shot led to Stephanie Terrell putting Pioneer on the board with 8:22 left in the game. Morgen Barroso was credited with an assist on the play.

Pioneer held the lead for less than 30 seconds as Katie Yeatts scored for Huron on the first possession following Terrell's goal. Standiford's game-winner came on a quick restart from just outside the shooting circle, which appeared to catch Pioneer off guard.

"These girls know how to finish a game," said Huron coach Tia Sutton after the game.

Huron improves to 7-0 on the season and Pioneer falls to 7-1-1.
