After seeing his team lose 60-44 to Huron High School on Friday night at the Riverdome, Pioneer coach Rex Stanzcak pointed his cell phone camera at the overhead scoreboard, intending to record the image for the sake of future motivation.

But before he could snap the photo, the score was cleared off the board. Stanczak frowned, and headed for the locker room.

It was that kind of night for Pioneer.

The Pioneers (7-2, 3-1 Southeastern Conference Red Division) trailed by just three points at halftime after playing tough for two quarters without the services of big man James Kelly, who sat for the final 12 minutes of the half after picking up two early fouls.

But the River Rats (8-1, 4-0 SEC Red) got rolling in the third quarter, and Pioneer was helpless to stop them.

Huron outscored Pioneer 22-5 in the third, putting the game away.

"It was a pretty good chess match there for a while," said Huron coach Waleed Samaha. "And I thought in the third quarter we imposed our will."

Huron hit five of its first seven shots of the second half—including back-to-back 3-pointers from A. J. Mathew and Dante Williams—and halfway through the quarter had extended the lead to 12 points.
