Huron boys basketball wins nail-biter, 59-58, over Dayton (Ohio) Dunbar
Last year, the Huron High School boys basketball team traveled to Dayton, Ohio to play Dayton Dunbar High School and lost, 90-72. Huron went on to advance to the state championship game and Dunbar won Ohio's Division 2 state title, its third in five years.
But this is a new season and a different venue. At the Riverdome Saturday night, Huron beat Dunbar in a nail-biter, 59-58.
Despite the River Rats' loss last season in Dayton, Huron coach Waleed Samaha said revenge wasn't on his mind.
"Honestly, no," Samaha said. "The better team won last year. It wasn't an issue of revenge for us. For us, it was about being able to play a different style than we're used to playing and being able to execute in that style."
The style that propelled Huron to the state championship last year was a fast-paced, end-to-end game sparked by a trapping defense.
But against Dunbar on Saturday, Huron played considerably slower and didn't press much. Even with the slower pace though, the Rats' defense was still suffocating, and led to highlights in the fast break.
