High school roundup: Skyline wins Chelsea golf invitational by 1 stroke and more Monday results
How close was the finish at the Chelsea Invitational?
The top five high school golf teams finished within five strokes of each other, with Skyline shooting 313 to Chelsea's 314. Huron finished third at 317, and Dexter and Midland Dow tied for the fourth spot with 318.
"The theme we've spotlighted all season is every stroke counts," Skyline coach Ashley Mantha said. "Scores do count no matter where you are."
Connor Lang shot 72 for Skyline at Reddeman Farms Golf Club, followed by Ian Marshall at 78, Josh Bourque at 81 and Shane Anderson and Andrew Wayrynen at 82.
It was a strong performance for Skyline, leading up to the postseason.
"I'm glad we played well. Our goal is to use this toward a strong performance in the (Southeastern Conference championship) and in districts," Mantha said.
Chelsea's Mason Wagner shot 68 to earn medalist honors, followed by Bourke Lodewyk (80), Cole Mauti (82) and Wesley Mitchell (84).
"Sometimes guys have frustrating days," Chelsea coach Don Ewald said. "They might think individual strokes don't count. Today was the perfect example that each stroke does."
Washtenaw County teams Saline (eighth, 331), Pioneer (11th, 354), Father Gabriel Richard (13th, 404) and Lincoln (14th, 416) also took part in the 14-team event.
