The girls tennis teams from Pioneer and Huron high schools went head-to-head on Tuesday and evenly split eight matches.

Huron, No. 7 in the latest Michigan High School Tennis Coaches Association state rankings, won all four singles flights and No. 3 Pioneer swept the doubles flights in a 4-4 tie at Pioneer.

The No. 1 singles match went to three sets, with Huron's Isabel Zheng defeating Pioneer's Claire Welch, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. At No. 1 doubles, Pioneer's Alexa Arvidson and Julia Rampton defeated Huron's Christine Mei and Valerie Peng, 7-6 (3), 6-3. (Complete scores)

The teams will meet again on May 18, when Huron hosts a Division 1 regional. Skyline, Saline and Lincoln are the other Washtenaw County schools participating in that 11-team tournament.
