Skyline, Huron lose SEC Red games and more Friday night results

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Two games into its Southeastern Conference schedule, two things are clear for the Skyline High School football team.

1) The Eagles can score, seemingly, at will. 2) Their rush defense has prevented them from winning.

One week after Berkley Edwards’ nearly-300 yards and five touchdowns outgunned Skyline’s wildly successful passing game in Chelsea’s 47-32 win over the Eagles, Monroe ran at will in Friday night’s 39-35 win.

"We, as coaches, have to but them in a better position to succeed,” Skyline coach Rod Jones said. “We just could not stop the run this evening. We couldn’t stop them all day.”

Monroe had its own trouble stopping Skyline quarterback Andrew Copp and Company in a game that featured just one punt.

Copp completed 18-of-23 passes for 279 yards and five touchdowns and rushed 21 times for 60 yards.

Jordan Woods caught eight passes for 147 yards and three touchdowns, including a 5-yard score that put Skyline ahead 35-32 with 9:14 remaining in the game.

But Monroe’s Jacob Nadeau, who ran for 148 yards and two scores, capped the Trojans’ ensuing drive with a 3-yard run.

After Skyline was stopped on its next drive, Monroe ate up the clock on its final possession. It ended with the Trojans completing a 4th-and-1 play near midfield in the final minute.

Jaetano Paolino led Monroe (4-0, 2-0) with 158 yards rushing. Jack Clark and Theron Wilson also caught touchdown passes for Skyline (2-2, 0-2).

Temperance Bedford 56, Huron 42

The defending SEC Red champion Kicking Mules racked up more than 500 yards of offense and eight touchdowns on their home field, according to BedfordNow.com.

Bedford quarterback Aaron Czesak ran for 102 yards and four touchdowns and running back Jon Prajzner added 160 yards and three scores, including one on a 4th-down play that gave the Kicking Mules a 56-39 lead with 1:39 left in the game.

Lincoln 26, Tecumseh 12

Lincoln scored points in almost every way possible in its Southeastern Conference White Division road win.

The Railsplitters (3-1, 1-1) got a safety and a 28-yard field goal from Corey Gray in the first quarter and a 65-yard run by George Miller to take a 12-0 third-quarter lead.

In the fourth quarter, when Tecumseh finally got on the scoreboard, Lincoln found some success through the air. T.J. O’Bryan completed touchdown passes to Rare Williams (55 yards) and Tyler Lincoln (45 yards). Gray was 3-of-3 on extra points.

The Railsplitters reached the three-win plateau for the fist time since 1998, when they went 5-4.

Adrian 40, Dexter 28

Dexter quarterback Michael Mioduszewski had three touchdown passes and ran for another, but threw four first-half interceptions -- including one that was returned for a touchdown late in the second quarter.

The teams exchanged scores in the first quarter, with Adrian leading 21-14 after 12 minutes, but Adrian took a 34-14 lead at halftime thanks to Nick Amador’s 34-yard interception return.

Miodeszewski completed 14-of-34 passes for 224 yards and ran 20 times for 146 yards in the high-offense Southeastern Conference White Division game. Jay Lewis (78 yards, two TDs) and Alex Mortensen (60 yards, one TD) caught three passes each for the Dreadnaughts (1-3, 0-2).

Adrian (4-0, 2-0) quarterback Sebastian Johnson was 17-of-24 passing for 199 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

Dexter coach Brian Baird said the Dreadnaught defense was improved after it allowed 559 yards in a 65-56 loss to Huron last week.

“Compared to last week our defense played really well, they stepped up,” he said. “We put ourselves back into the ball game late, but we just put ourselves in too deep of a hole."

Ecorse 39, Willow Run 7

More coverage: Boxscore at MLive.com

Ecorse quarterback Kyle Binkins completed 17-of-30 passes for 325 yards and five touchdowns in the Michigan Metro Athletic Conference win.

Willow Run’s Kareem Lovelace was similarly effective - completing 14 of 20 passes for 234 yards and running 12 times for 131 more yards - but the Flyers (1-3, 1-2) had a hard time finding the endzone.

"We moved the ball up and down the field. If you looked at time of possession and first downs, the score shouldn't have been what it was,” Willow Run coach Rufus Pipkins said. "Just stalled drives and mistakes. We got in the red zone, but we weren't able to seal the deal.”

Willow Run’s lone score came in the third quarter when Devere Pipkins caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Lovelace.

Manchester 36, Addison 8

Nate Bossory threw touchdown passes to four different receivers in the first half and the Flying Dutchmen were in control, 24-0, by halftime of the Cascades Conference game.

"This was the best game we've played this season on both sides of the ball," Manchester coach Wes Gall said, noting the team's only major flaw was four missed extra points. "All other areas were great."

Bossory, who finished 22-of-29 passing for 269 yards, connected with Jim Kurasz (22 yards), Josh Finley (12), Devin Jose (19) and Jake Osborne (19) for first-half scores.

Finley caught another touchdown in the second half and Eric Coval wrapped up the scoring with an 8-yard run for Manchester (4-0, 3-0). Finley and Jose finished with five receptions apiece.

Jared Bruner rushed for 91 yards for Addison (0-4, 0-3).

Britton-Deerfield 41, Whitmore Lake 13

More coverage: Boxscore at MLive.com

Sam Panicacci returned the second-half kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown to pull Whitmore Lake within 21-13, but Britton-Deerfield scored 20 unanswered points to run away with the Tri-County Conference win.

"We had them stuffed in the hole plenty, just couldn't wrap up, finish tackles," said Whitmore Lake interim coach Andrew Crumb.

The Trojans (0-4, 0-2) were playing without head coach Barry Pierson, who was ejected from last week’s game for arguing what he thought was a late hit on quarterback Dylan St. Charles.

William Wagner scored Whitmore Lake’s first touchdown on a 23-yard pass from St. Charles, who finished 10-of-17 passing for 67 yards.

Josh Redlinger led the Trojans with 13 tackles and Panicacci made 10.

Grosse Ile 41, Milan 32

Milan came up short in an upset bid at Grosse Ile, ranked No. 10 in the Division 4 Associated Press poll. The Red Devils are 4-0 and 3-0 in Huron League play. Milan is 1-3, 1-1.

E.W.M.A. 20, Burr Oak 0

Travis Watson rushed for 106 yards and Yasser Furha threw for 87 yards and a touchdown as the Chargers (1-2) picked up their first win in 8-man football action of the year.
