Pioneer, Chelsea win big SEC games and more high school football results
There were no secret weapons in the Pioneer High School football team’s convincing 38-14 win at Temperance Bedford on Friday night.
“If you've got a cannon you want to fire it off,” Pioneer coach Paul Test said.

In a matchup of teams that were part of a three-way tie for first place in the Southeastern Conference Red Division, Pioneer (4-2, 4-0) took control early and led Bedford (4-2, 3-1) 31-7 by halftime.
Pioneer is now tied with only Monroe (6-0, 4-0). Those teams meet next week.
After Bedford’s offense marched down field and scored on its first drive, Test said Pioneer’s defense caught up with the tempo and shut the Kicking Mules down. Bedford averaged 40.8 points in its four wins.
And with Bedford’s offense under wraps, Johnson took control.
"The line was opening some big holes and Drake broke some big runs. He's special,” Test said.
Erik Kristensen kicked a 44-yard field goal and five point-after kicks for Pioneer.
Chelsea 20, Lincoln 7

Two blocked punts led to a pair of short Chelsea scoring drives in a game where yards were hard to come by.
Chelsea's Mike Steinhauer and Anthony Catalina each got their hand on a punt.
The first resulted in the game’s first points, a 29-yard Zach Rabbitt field goal in the second quarter. The second set up Andy Nelson’s 7-yard touchdown run that put the Bulldogs (5-1, 4-0) ahead 20-7 early in the fourth quarter.
In between, Rabbitt opened the third quarter with a 34-yard field goal and Berkley Edwards, who finished with 118 rushing yards on 22 carries, scored on a 40-yard run for Chelsea.
George Miller rushed for 122 yards, including a 35-yard touchdown, for Lincoln (4-2, 3-2), which could have moved into a first-place tie in the Southeastern Conference White Division standings with a win.
Besides Edwards and Miller, neither team got much going on offense.
Seven other Chelsea ball carriers combined for 17 yards and three quarterbacks were a combined 5 of 12 passing for 42 yards.
"We've been a good defensive team all year, we've been very physical," said Lincoln coach Chris Westfall. "It wasn't about stopping Berkley Edwards, it was about containing the entire offense."
Veteran Chelsea coach Brad Bush agreed, saying "I don't know if our kids believed what we told them, but this is the best Lincoln team we've ever seen. They have an excellent defense."
Miller accounted for an even greater percentage of Lincoln’s total output, chalking up 122 of the Railsplitters’ 149 yards.
Following Nelson’s fourth quarter touchdown, Lincoln’s Rare Williams returned the ensuing kickoff 75 yards to the Chelsea 12, giving the Railsplitters a much-needed spark.
But the Chelsea defense held, stopping Lincoln on a 4th-and-15 play moments later to essentially wrap up the win. Chelsea stopped Lincoln on three fourth-down plays during the game.

Manchester’s scores came on a 2-yard pass from Bossory to Jake Osborne in the second quarter and a 7-yard pass play from Bossory to Josh Finley with Manchester trailing by 34 points in the third quarter.

The wind, rain and cold made it difficult to pass and the sloppy field conditions made it difficult to run on Friday night. Father Gabriel Richard coach Brian Lemons took his chances in mud and it paid off.
The Fighting Irish didn't throw a single pass all night, scoring on three rushing touchdowns, a fumble recovery and field goal, and improved to 5-1 on the season (1-1 Detroit Catholic High School League).
"It was a mud bowl out there and we were limited in some of the things we could do offensively," Lemons said.
Nick Pauze led the all-rush Irish attack with 27 carries for 150 yards and two touchdowns. While quarterback Joe Kendzicky showed off some running ability with nine carries for 72 yards.
Lutheran North (3-3, 2-1) only managed 120 yards of total offense, 70 of which came on a scoring pass on the game's opening drive to give the Mustangs an early lead. Pauze scored his two touchdowns later in the frame to put the Irish up for good.
"Our defense played great tonight," Lemons said.
Steve Tracy made a 37-yard field goal in the third quarter and was also 4-for-4 on extra points for the night.

Flat Rock scored two first-half touchdowns after Milan fumbles to take a 21-0 halftime lead and the Big Reds’ comeback attempt fell short.
"The turnovers really hurt us,” Milan coach Jesse Hoskins said. “Our defense played very well in the second half, it just felt like our offense ran out of time.”

After falling behind 19-0 in the first half, Whitmore Lake rallied to make things interesting before losing its 19th straight game.
"They have to come to the realization that if they play for four quarters that they could win the game," Whitmore Lake coach Barry Pierson said. “Its hard to keep their dauber up."

Randy Cole must have thought he was Woody Hayes as he kept going for 2 up by 5 scores. Guess he could not go for 3!
