HOLLY -- At the beginning of Day 2 of the Division 4 MHSAA Boys Tennis State Finals, it was still mathematically possible for Greenhills School not to finish in first place, but it was very unlikely.

Greenhills had advanced to the semifinals of seven of eight flights on Friday and had a near insurmountable lead heading into Saturday’s second round at Holly High School.

Gryphons players won state titles at three of those seven flights on Saturday, giving Greenhills 29 total team points - nine ahead of second place Grosse Ile - and its third straight Division 4 team state championship.

“It’s the first time the team has ever done that and it’s a lot of new guys which makes it kind of extra rewarding,” said Greenhills coach Eric Gajar.
