Greenhills' Andrew Khouri, center, gets smushed between his teammate Andikan Archibong, left, and Frankel Jewish Academy's Jesse Medina as they chase down a loose ball late in the fourth quarter of FJA's 50-39 win over Greenhills in Ann Arbor.

The Greenhills School boys basketball team didn't know much about its nonconference opponent West Bloomfield Frankel Jewish Academy on Thursday.

And after taking 20-16 lead into halftime, it's fair to say the offensive explosion by six-foot-two freshman Oliver Soble, who went scoreless in the first half, was quite the surprise.

Soble came to life in the second half, hitting four 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 15 points, and Greenhills couldn't keep up in a 50-39 loss in Ann Arbor.

"All of a sudden he hit a couple (threes) that it looked like he didn't even look before he shot it. It's tough (to guard)," said Greenhills coach Andrew Wright, whose team was outscored 34-19 in the second half after leading 20-16 at halftime.

The Gryphons' attempts to squelch West Bloomfield's comeback was certainly made more difficult without second and third leading scorers Matt Jong and Al Braun on the court. The seniors - who combine to average 21.7 points - missed the second half due to academic commitments. They scored seven points between them in the first half.
