The Phoenix turned the ball over on downs at their own 15-yard line to open the game. Chelsea quarterback Logan Brown only needed one play to give his team a 7-0 lead. He hit Nate Bossory in the end zone for the touchdown.
Ypsilanti's next two possessions didn't go much better. The Bulldogs blocked a punt in the end zone and then Michael Steinhauer ran back an interception 58 yards for a score.
