When Dexter High School and Pioneer exchanged pins in the opening two matches of their wrestling dual, it was a sign of things to come.

But in the end, a Pioneer forfeit in the final match was the difference-maker in Dexter's 39-37 dual win over the Pioneers in a Southeastern Conference quad at Dexter High School.

Dexter finished 2-0 on the day while Pioneer went 0-2.

After the Dreadnaughts took an early lead on Pioneer thanks to pins by Anthony Chisolm at 145 pounds, Drew Barnes (152) and Shawn Chamberlain (285), Pioneer climbed back with five straight wins.

Pioneer's lone pin against Monroe came from Alex Kinch (189). Lincoln was 0-2 on the night with a loss to Monroe as well.

Pioneer, however, was forced to forfeit at 140, the final weight class, to hand Dexter the 39-37 win. During the run, three Pioneer pins came from the likes of Billy Cobb-Gulley (112), Keegan Pape (119) and Ryan Murphy (135). Murphy's pin pushed the Pioneers into the lead at 37-33.

Dexter's other win came in 48-28 fashion over Ypsilant Lincoln. The Dreads notched six pins en route to a 2-0 day.

Meanwhile, Pioneer was routed by Monroe 57-18.

"Monroe beat us up pretty good, they're a good squad," said Pioneer coach Bill Petoskey.
