Chelsea boys 2nd in D2 behind August Pappas and Mason Borders; plus more results
August Pappas and Mason Borders each claimed individual state titles and the Chelsea High School boys track team finished second in the Division 2 state finals.
Both Bulldog seniors were double medalists Saturday at Houseman Field in Grand Rapids.
Pappas won the 3,200-meter run (9:31.98) and was second in the 1,600-meter run (4:18.69) while Borders won the 300 intermediate hurdles (38.14 seconds) and was fourth in the 110 hurdles (:14.54).
The Bulldogs finished with 48 points, eight shy of state champion East Lansing. (Complete results)
"We were actually in the lead going into the last event which was pretty cool." said Chelsea head coach Eric Swagger, "It was a wide open event and I'm trilled with how we competed today."
Chelsea’s Bryce Bradley was on Pappas’ heels in both distance events. He finished third in the 3,200 (9:35.69) and fourth in the 1,600 (4:19.36).
"On a hot day for August and Bryce to both run doubles, which not a lot of kids were doing, and to do so well. It was great to see. It just puts credence to all the high mileage training we do and the hard work they put in." said Swagger.
The Bulldogs’ other points came from the 400-meter relay team of Berkley Edwards, Logan Yordanich, Luke Oliver and Christian Josters, which finished fifth in 43.25 seconds.
DIVISION 2 GIRLS
A second-place finish in the 800 meter run by Danielle Dahl (2:13.71) led Chelsea to a sixth-place tie at Houseman Field in Grand Rapids.
Detroit Country Day won the team title with 58 points. The Bulldogs scored 22. (Complete results)
Chelsea got a fourth-place finish from Emily Cottrell in the 300 hurdles (:26.44) and an eighth-place finish from Corinne Carpenter in the 200 dash (:26.44). The Bulldogs also finished fifth in both the 400 and 1,600-meter relays.
DIVISION 3 BOYS
Father Gabriel Richard’s Nate Donnellon showed off some strength (sixth in discus) and speed (eighth in 400-meter dash) at Comstock Park High School.
The Fighting Irish also got an eighth-place finish in the shot put from Dominic Leoni. Willow Run finished fifth in the 400-meter relay in the boys meet, which was won by Frankenmuth. (Complete results)
There were no local medalists at the D3 girls meet, which was won by Benzonia Benzie Central. (Complete results)
DIVISION 4
Greenhills sent two state qualifiers to Jenison High School and both returned with shiny state medals. The Gryphons’ Jeffrey Bord finished fifth in the 3,200-meter run (9:57.07) while Grace Gardner finished sixth in the 100-meter dash (:13.15). Albion won the boys title (complete results) and Fowler won the girls’ team title (complete results).

You posted in your article "complete results) What part of the definition of the word complete don't you understand? Several field events that placed you in the top 8, and thus making you "All-State" was were ONLY decided on misses. 24 hours after the event, you have kids who placed 9-20 that were tied and only missed All-state based on misses. It would be nice to know what their place was. Not even the MHSAA lists this. I know it is not just Annarbor.com. But if you can list the COMPLETE results that would be grand. Thank you, Gern
