The Chelsea High School boys basketball team faced a tall order - in more ways than one - on Friday night.

The Bulldogs were matched up against rival Dexter, which recently pulled ahead of Chelsea in the Southeastern Conference White Division standings and touts 6-foot-9 Cornell-bound center Dave LaMore. Not to mention, the Bulldogs, who started the season 6-0, were on an uncharacteristic two-game losing skid, while the Dreadnaughts were on a three-game win streak.

A rejuvenated Chelsea, however, held LaMore, who has an ailing ankle, to just four points on its way to a 53-38 win in a filled-to-the-brim Chelsea gym.

"We built our game plan around him (LaMore) defensively," said Chelsea senior guard Patrick Roberts. "We double-downed every time he got the ball -- we had two people, three people on him."

From the opening tip, LaMore was swarmed by Bulldog defenders and bullied out of the paint. For a majority of the game, forward Spencer Mykala -- giving LaMore a good five inches -- was tasked to defend the Dreadnaught center.

"Basically we just wanted to keep him out of the key," said Mykala, who scored a team-high 10 points. "And keeping the game plan focused on LaMore and keep him -- and everybody else -- out of there."
