The results might not have been exactly what Chelsea High School baseball coach Wayne Welton wanted, but it was still a pretty good day at the ballpark.

And, hey, at least the Bulldogs won.

The Brighton Bulldogs, that is, who picked up a pair of 8-1 wins over Chelsea at the University of Michigan's Ray Fisher Stadium on Wednesday.

The regular-season, non-conference games were a chance for both coaches to get every member of their roster some playing time on a collegiate stage while simultaneously preparing for Saturday's district tournaments.

The first game was tight through four innings before Brighton scored three times in the bottom of the fifth and twice more in the sixth to pull away. Nate Udell drove in Chelsea's only run.

In the second game - during which Brighton leadoff hitter Shane Dokey went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles - Brighton led 8-0 before Chelsea's Brad Hepler drove in a run in the top of the sixth.

Chelsea travels to Jackson Northwest Saturday to defend its Division 2 district title, opening up against Southeastern Conference rival Tecumseh at 10 a.m.

Brighton, which won a pre-district game over Howell on Tuesday, faces the host Dreadnaughts at Dexter in a Division 1 semifinal at 12:30 p.m.

GIRLS SOCCER Greenhills 8, West Bloomfield Frankel Jewish Academy 0: The Gryphons completed a mercy-rule shortened Division 4 district semifinal win just six minutes into Tuesday's second half. Complete details not available. The Gryphons face Plymouth Christian in Friday's 3:30 p.m. district title game at Plymouth Christian.

Clinton 2, Ypsilanti Calvary Christian 1: The season came to a bit of a frustrating end for Calvary Christian on Tuesday. Although his team had one win all season, coach Tim Hunter couldn't help but think if his team was at full strength it had a chance of advancing to a Division 4 district semifinal. Instead, both seniors on the roster missed the beginning of the game and Calvary played the entire first half with 10 players. Clinton took a 2-0 lead at halftime. Shelbie Wolvin arrived at half and put Calvary Christian (1-9-4) on the board in the 45th minute, but the Redskins used their subs and conditioning to their advantage. (Boxscore)

BOYS GOLF Tri-County Conference Championships: Whitmore Lake and Adrian Madison each won a nine-hole match at Lenawee Country Club on Tuesday. Whitmore Lake shot a school-record team total of 166 to win the front-nine match by three strokes over Madison and shot a 173 to lose by three to Madison on the back. The 18-hole total of 339 is also a new Whitmore Lake school record. Jake Kerrigan shot a 5-over-par 40 to lead the Trojans on the front nine. Billy Milliman shot a 5-over 41 on the back.
