Ypsilanti's Tristan Simmons scores 38; Pioneer and Huron win and more Tuesday results

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Tristan Simmons had a double-double with 38 points and 11 rebounds, and after a slow start, Ypsilanti pulled away from Monroe for a 84-53 boys basketball win Tuesday night in Monroe.

Simmons' 38 points is the most points scored by a player in Washtenaw County all season. He also had four assists and two blocks.

Monroe stayed with Ypsilanti in the first quarter, trailing by just two, 15-13, after the first eight minutes.

But once Phoenix were able to adjust to the Trojan's press, they pulled away.

"They tried to dictate the tempo," Phoenix coach Steve Brooks said. "It was a real fun game to play, and when you play up-tempo like that the kids really like it."

Ajay Stovall had 16 points for Ypsilanti (13-0, 9-0 SEC Red), and Derrick Richardson chipped in 13, along with five assists and four steals.
