Adrian eliminates Milan from the playoffs for the second year in a row
ADRIAN -- It was the kind of start the Milan High School football team couldn't afford to have against one-loss host Adrian.
On the second play of their opening drive, Big Reds quarterback Tory Martinsen's pass fluttered through his receiver's hands and was intercepted by Adrian's Tyler Frank. And on their first snap, the Maples were in Milan's end zone after a 33-yard pass from Sebastain Johnson to Codie Nolan.
Johnson went on to throw two more touchdowns and ran for another, handing Milan a 27-7 Division 3 playoff loss Friday night at Maple Stadium.
"For whatever reason -- early in the season we didn't drop anything -- we've had the 'dropsies' a little bit, and it cost us big in the first quarter," said Milan coach Steve Robb.
As for Adrian, "It was huge," said Maples coach Phil Jacobs. "Obviously, we had the momentum. Right out of the chute, it was going our way."

There was an excellent story about the young Milan quarterback in the Detroit News on line Friday. Ann Arbor.com should follow up. Quite a story and a reminder of what kinds of injuries can occur in simple high school football game....for him it was life altering.
