2010 All-Washtenaw County Volleyball Team

Volleyball is the eighth in AnnArbor.com's series of 10 All-Washtenaw County teams from the fall sports season.

DREAM TEAM

Cassie Castro (sr., L), Saline: A returning member of the 2009 Dream Team, Castro earned Class A All-State honorable mention and All-SEC Red first team honors this season. Castro was the area’s top defensive player, tallying 549 digs for the Hornets. She served at nearly a 90 percent rate with 65 aces and maintained nearly a 90 percent serve reception level all season.

Caitlen Foote (jr., OH), Dexter: Foote’s 388 kills were second on Dexter’s 40-16-6 team. She also had 54 aces and 396 digs. Castro averaged 2.6 kills per game, hit at a stellar .354 mark and served at 91 percent while earning All-Region and All-SEC White first team honors.

Nya Greenstone (sr., OH), Pioneer: The 2010 AnnArbor.com Player of the Year earned Class A honorable mention All-State as well as All-SEC Red first team honors. Her 498 kills were the most in the area while her 411 digs were among the area’s leaders as well. Greenstone, a member of the 2009 Dream Team, will be playing at the University of Toledo next season.

Maggie Halloran (jr., MB), Skyline: This middle blocker for Skyline’s first-ever varsity team earned All-Region and All-SEC Red first team honors. Halloran had 428 kills and 99 blocks for the Eagles, while also helping pace the team’s defense with 379 digs. She also tallied 41 aces while maintaining an 86 percent service efficiency.

Abby Koehler (sr., OH), Whitmore Lake: Kohler, a member of the AnnArbor.com Class B-C-D first team last year, averaged 2.3 kills per game this season, totaling 277 for the season. Kohler also posted 387 digs for the Trojans, earning All Region and second team All-Tri County Conference honors.

Chaeli Wantuck (sr., S), Pioneer: Wantuck had 1,115 assists while guiding the Pioneer offense. She also had 309 digs and 56 blocks. She was an All-SEC Red first team selection.

CLASS A FIRST TEAM

Katie Austin (jr., OH), Skyline: Austin led Skyline with 440 kills this season while hitting at an impressive .280 percentage. Austin also kept the ball in play from the service line, tallying a 92 percent mark from behind the end-line. Austin was named to the All-SEC Red first team.

Taylor Chick (sr., S/RS), Huron: Chick put up some impressive numbers in her career at Huron. She will graduate the school’s career assist leader, posting 698 this season, as well as the career ace leader. She tallied 347 digs this year to go along with 63 aces and 114 kills. Chick earned All-SEC Red honorable mention honors.

Brionne Fonville (sr., OH), Huron: Fonville is a solid outside hitter despite being smaller than many of the opposition’s outsides. She posted 274 kills and 58 aces this season along with 320 digs. Fonville was a All-SEC Red honorable mention team.

Marissa Owen (jr., S/RS), Saline: Owen split her time this season between setter and right-side hitter. Her 381 kills and 85 blocks led Saline. She also posted 78 aces while serving at a 92 percent rate. An All-SEC Red honorable mention.

Mackenzie Shand (so., MB), Saline: Shand, just a sophomore, tallied 183 blocks in the middle for the Hornets. With 262 kills and 69 aces, the middle of the Hornet front-line looks solid for years to come. An All-SEC Red honorable mention.

Talia Wood (so., OH), Dexter: Wood impressed in her first year on varsity with 413 kills, tops on her team, also had 35 aces and 176 digs. An all-SEC White first team selection.

CLASS A HONORABLE MENTION

Meagan Winkelseth, Ypsilanti Tyler Richardson, Ypsilanti

CLASS B,C,D FIRST TEAM

Libby Edwards (jr., MB), Father Gabriel Richard: Edwards led the middle of the Irish defense and offense, totaling 166 kills with an astounding .426 hitting percentage. An All-CHSL and All-Region honoree, Edwards racked up 86 blocks and served at a 90 percent rate.

McKenna Erkfritz (so., MB) Manchester: Erkfritz was a presence in the middle for Manchester this season. She led her team to the district finals with 287 kills and 110 blocks.

Britt Kalmeta (sr., OH), Father Gabriel Richard: An All-CHSL and All-Region selection, Kalmeta was second in kills for the Irish with 178 and totaled 139 digs as well. She graduates as the holder of five Father Gabriel Richard school records, including career kills and aces.

Taylor Parks (sr., OH) Manchester: Parks was stellar for the Flying Dutchmen all season, leading Manchester in digs with 308, and aces with 59. She was second on the team with 238 kills.

Jessica Spiegelberg (sr., MB) Whitmore Lake: Spiegelberg led the Trojans with 318 kills (2.6 per game) and was second on the team in hitting percentage. She also had 136 blocks and was named to the All-TCC second team.

Michelle Wellman (sr., MB) Chelsea: A three-year varsity player for the Bulldogs, Wellman totaled 207 kills and 111 total blocks this season while serving at an 85 percent rate. Wellman earned All-SEC White first team honors this season and earned all-tournament honors at two invitationals.

CLASS B-C-D HONORABLE MENTION
