2010 All-Washtenaw County Boys Soccer Team

Boys soccer is the last of AnnArbor.com's series of 10 All-Washtenaw County teams from the fall sports season.

DREAM TEAM

Al Braun (sr., M), Greenhills: Braun was a first-team Division 4 All-State selection. He helped lead Greenhills to its second-consecutive state championship game, and scored an equalizing goal in that game—one of 15 on the season. Strong and skilled on the ball in midfield, Braun was a key to making the Gryphons successful both offensively and defensively.

Adam Carn-Saferstein (jr., M), Pioneer: Carn-Saferstein had four goals and two assists for the Pioneers, but his value went well beyond scoring statistics. Carn-Saferstein is one of the most talented players in the area, and was an All-SEC first team selection.

Patrick Duggan (sr., F), Greenhills: Duggan gave Greenhills the strong player it needed to hold the ball up top, and was dangerous both as a goal scorer and playmaker—as evidenced by his 18 goals and 17 assists. He was second-team All-State in Division 4.

Mahamoudou Kaba (sr., D), Lincoln: The AnnArbor.com Player of the Year has an impressive combination of physical stature, touch on the ball and awareness on the field. Kaba, who will play next year on a scholarship at the University of South Carolina, played midfield and defense for Lincoln, and had 10 goals and 11 assists. A second team All-State selection.

Damian McGlothlin (sr., F), Pioneer: McGlothlin was the Pioneer’s top target up front, scoring 12 goals and assisting on eight more. He was an all-SEC first team selection.

Justin Ritchey (sr., F), Lincoln: The bullish forward helped put Lincoln soccer on the map over his four-year varsity career. He led the Railsplitters this season with 23 goals and 13 assists and finished his career with the most goals in school history.

Marcus Spivey (sr., D), Huron: Spivey was a steady, physical presence for the Huron defense. A first-team all-SEC selection.

Grant Steinhauser (sr., D), Huron: Steinhauser was the key member of a staunch River Rats defense. He was first-team all SEC, and a Division 1 All-State honorable mention.

Steve Weidenbach (sr., M), Huron: Selected third team All-State in Division 1, Weidenbach had 12 goals and 12 assists for Huron. A captain for the River Rats and a first-team all-SEC selection.

Matt Ybarra (sr., M), Huron: One of the top players in the state, Ybarra led the River Rats with 15 goals and 19 assists. The second-team Division 1 All-State selection was Huron’s top playmaker, creating opportunities for himself and his teammates.

Drew Shepherd (so., G), Huron: Shepherd missed the end of the season with a broken leg, but the sophomore has already established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the state. Sheppard was named second-team All-State in Division 1.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Bob Stowe, Lincoln: Coached Lincoln to the best record in school history (19-5) and its first SEC White and district championships.

DIVISION 1 FIRST TEAM

Peter Baaker (jr., D), Skyline: Baaker gave Skyline the physical presence that his undersized team desperately needed, using his big frame to control the Eagles’ backline.

Jesse Buchsbaum (sr., F), Huron: Buchsbaum scored 11 goals and provided Huron with a big target - 6-foot-10, to be exact - up front.

Eric Brody-Moore (jr., M), Skyline: Brody-Moore was a talented finisher and playmaker for Skyline, scoring nine goals and assisting on 12 others.

Josh Carn-Saferstein (fr., M/D), Skyline: The talented freshman made an immediate impact for the Eagles, played all over the field depending on where coach Chris Morgan needed him.

Peter Ehrenberger (so., D), Huron: Ehrenberger was a first-team all SEC selection and another key part of the talented River Rat backline.

Mike Kaminski (sr., D), Saline: One of the most talented players in the area, Kaminski had an unfortunate senior year for the Hornets, missing chunks of the season due to a concussion and an appendectomy. When healthy, he was capable of dominating from every position.

Justice Kwak (sr., D), Pioneer: Kwak was a key member of the Pioneer squad, often pushing forward from his defensive position to get involved in the attack. He was a first-team all-SEC selection.

Jeremy Ritchey (jr., G), Lincoln: Ritchey was first-team All-SEC, and Division 1 All-State honorable mention. He was aggressive this season in controlling the 18-yard box to keep opponents at bay.

Jeff Robbins (jr., M), Skyline: Robbins provided the Eagles with toughness and playmaking abilities in the midfield. The first-team All-SEC selection scored nine goals, and assisted on eight more.

Connor Smith (sr., M), Lincoln: Smith had an incredible knack for winning balls in midfield, and for making heady plays to help his team sustain possession. A first-team all-SEC selection.

Mark Sulavik (jr., D), Saline: Sulavik was a smart, tenacious defender for the Hornets. He was a first-team all-SEC selection.

DIVISION 2-3-4 FIRST TEAM

Matt Barera (sr., F), Father Gabriel Richard: Barera set a school record for career goals with 44 in his four-year varsity career. He scored 16 of them in 2010 and was named third-team All-State in Division 3.

Bobby Beneteau (sr., G), Chelsea: Beneteau was a first-team all-SEC selection for the Bulldogs. He was big and athletic in net.

Eric Guo (jr., D), Greenhills: Guo anchored the center of the Gryphons’ defense as they stormed through the Division 4 state playoffs. He was tough in the air and won a lot of balls for the Gryphons.

Curtis Heisel (sr., M), Greenhills: Heisel was a key player in the midfield for Greenhills, being the primary player who provided service to the Gryphons’ other attacking players.

Sam Justice (sr., M), Dexter: The senior was all-SEC first-team, and was a first-team Division 2 All-State selection.

Alex Khouri (sr., D), Greenhills: Khouri improved greatly as the season went on, and was key to the Gryphons in the playoff run for his physicality, and his ability to help sustain possession.

Charlie McCalla (sr., D), Chelsea: McCalla missed a few games early in the season due to farm duties and animal shows, and the Bulldogs sorely missed him when he was gone. McCalla was the lone senior in the Chelsea defense, and kept the Bulldog backline organized.

Sean Purcell (sr., M), Father Gabriel Richard: Purcell had 16 assists on the season, and 33 in his career, the most in Gabriel Richard history. He was a third-team All-State selection.

Patrick Roberts (sr., F/M), Chelsea: A four-year varsity player, Roberts scored nine goals, had nine assists and was first-team All-SEC. Roberts gave the Bulldogs speed, strength, and athleticism up top, helping to control possession for Chelsea.

William Schork (sr., M), Father Gabriel Richard: A four-year varsity player, Schork was selected honorable mention Division 3 All-State team and scored 10 goals this season.

Ian St. Pierre (jr., F), Dexter: St. Pierre was a first-team all-SEC selection and honorable mention on the Division 2 All-State team. He scored eight goals and had three assists.
