Hole-in-one: Ypsilanti's Bill Anhut, 82, gets first after 50 years on the course

By AnnArbor.com Staff

The downhill slope of the second hole at Rustic Glen Golf Club in Saline gave Bill Anhut a perfect view of his first hole-in-one of a half century of playing golf.

“I saw it go in all the way,” said the 82-year-old Ypsilanti resident.

Anhut and his friends, Dan Maloney and Phil Barnes, have been playing a once-a-week round of golf together for more than 20 years. That routine settled into a regular Tuesday outing at Rustic Glen.

Anhut figured if he’d ever get a hole-in-one, it would come on the 145-yard par 3. On Tuesday, it came.

“I got a kick out of it,” Anhut said. “I’ve had a couple that ended up six or seven inches away, but not a hole-in-one.”

Anhut, the father of nine children, has gotten the typical congratulations, but also took some light-hearted ribbing for his club choice. He used a 5-wood to reach the green.

“That goes with the territory of having sons,” Anhut said.

It was the first hole in one of the season at Rustic Glen.
