Hoffman eyes three-peat at Ann Arbor Women's Golf Championship

By Bob Gross

Saline’s Sarah Hoffman, winner of the last two Ann Arbor Women’s City Championships at Leslie Golf Course, is confident she’ll contend again.

Hoffman who just completed her junior year at Grand Valley State University, has golfed for the Lakers’ golf team all three years. Hoffman won three individual tournaments last season and captured First Team All-GLIAC and Division II All-American honorable mention.

Hoffman likes her chances in this year’s tournament, ”just because of my experience on the course, especially my experience in playoffs.”

Hoffman has won two playoffs at Leslie, one her senior year against teammate Bethanny French to win the SEC and the second was to capture her first city title - winning a three-hole playoff against Minjoo Lee.

The setup of the course also favors Hoffman, who is used to playing college distances.

“The course sets up pretty short for the tournament - about 5,400 yards. I’m used to playing 6,000-yard courses in college,” she said. “The shorter length lets me play shorter irons into the green.”

This is one of five tournaments that Hoffman will play this summer in addition to the five or six times a week she plays her home course, Travis Pointe Country Club.

Registration for the women's tournament is closed, but registration is open for the other two major championships, the men’s on July 15-17 and senior on Aug. 20-21, both at Leslie. There will also be a 14-hole, two-day junior tournament for players 12 and under at Huron Hills on July 5-7.

Information and registration info for all city tournaments can be found online at www.a2golf.org or by calling Leslie Park or Huron Hills golf courses.
