After a rocky start when he was called up to the Cleveland Indians' Triple-A affiliate in July, Putnam has been stellar on the mound, working primarily in late relief.
Since Aug. 5, he hasn't allowed an earned run in 18.1 innings, which spans 10 regular season appearances and four playoff games.
Last year, Putnam had a 0.00 postseason ERA while helping the Akron Aeros (AA) win an Eastern League championship. He was a fifth-round choice of the Indians in the 2008 amateur draft after winning three Big Ten titles with the Wolverines. He was also part of a state championship team at Pioneer in 2004.
Putnam is the third former Wolverine pitcher to be part of a minor league championship this month, according to MGoBlue.com.
Tyler Burgoon earned a save and pitched the final out of Everett's 2-1 series win over Spokane in the Northwest League playoffs and Matt Miller picked up the win in Helena's 14-3 win over Ogden to win the Pioneer League championship.
