Wine, cigars and singing. The European Ryder Cup team celebrated with all three on Monday after completing a 14 1/2-13 1/2 victory over the U.S. team.
The storylines from the long, rainy weekend of golf were plentiful, The New York Times reported.
From the Times:
It was a restorative week for almost all concerned. For the Europeans, it was a reaffirmation of how far the PGA European Tour has come. For the Americans, it was a chance to show that they can form team bonds that are as powerful as those often attributed to the Europeans.
The London Guardian was impressed with how the U.S. players rallied around Hunter Mahan, who came up short in the final match and chunked a pitch shot on his final hole.
