Eastern Michigan hires former Michigan assistant, Ball State head coach Stan Parrish as offensive coordinator

Former Michigan offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Stan Parrish, abvoe coaching Drew Henson (7) and Tom Brady (10), is Eastern Michigan's new offensive coordinator.

A former Michigan football assistant coach who was also the head coach at Ball State will be the new offensive coordinator for Eastern Michigan. No, Brady Hoke isn't moving down the road to coach the Eagles, but the man who succeeded him at Ball State is.

Stan Parrish will be Eastern head coach Ron English's new offensive coordinator the university announced on Monday.

"Stan Parrish brings a wealth of knowledge to the program," said English in a press relese. "I am excited about his ability to move and score the football, and we are very fortunate to have someone with his experience on the staff."

Parrish was Hoke's quarterbacks coach in 2005 and offensive coordinator from 2006-08. In the 2008 season, he was one of five finalists for the Broyles Award, which goes to the top assistant coach in the nation. Parrish engineered a Ball State offense which helped the Cardinals to a 12-1 record, an 8-0 Mid-American Conference mark, the MAC West Division Championship and back-to-back bowl appearances for the first-time in school history.

Parrish was named head coach when Hoke left for San Diego State after the 2008 season. Ball State went 6-19 in his two year stint as head coach and he was fired following the 2010 season. He was also head coach at Marshall and Kansas State and once held the inglorious distinction of coaching 30 straight games without a victory.

Parrish was quarterbacks coach at Michigan from 1996-99, winning a national championship with the Wolverines in 1997. He was Michigan's offensive coordinator from 2000-01 and was the quarterbacks coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Super Bowl winning team in 2003.

Parrish replaces Ken Karcher. Last season Eastern ranked 12th out of 13 MAC teams in total offense, gaining 335 yards per game as the Eagles went 2-10 on the season.

EMU also ranked 12th in passing offense, with 171 yards per game.

Re-tread or good hire, does it matter? EMU has a lame duck coach who will be gone in a year (or less if they start 1-4) so this is not building for the future. Yes, English will either be fired for a poor season (and career record) at EMU or he will win the MAC and move on - 6-6 is not enough to keep him around so he is gone either way. Given the lame duck status, this hire is as good as EMU was going to do in this situation

Good hire, he has a redshirt freshman QB in Michael Mioduszewski, 6'4" 228, very fast , strong, very mobile with a monster arm. Let's see what happens after spring ball! Go Eagles

Although I'm skeptical of Eastern Michigan football ever mattering, you gotta admit, the guy who coached the greatest NFL quarterback of his generation is at least intriguing.

Ah yes. who could ever forget the man, the myth, the legend...Rob Johnson? Joking. I assume metrichead is referring to the quarterback pictured above, Tom Brady.

A very good hire. Parrish brings a lot of experience and knowledge to coach the players he will inherit up. I wish Coach English and Parrish well.

His bio indicates head coaching experience at Wabash U., Marshall U., Kansas State and Ball State.

A great Hire for EMU. def NOT a retread. While he hasn't excelled as the head man. As an assistant he has a SuperBowl Ring and a National Championship, while coaching Tom Brady and turning the Bucs Brad Johnson from a washed up old-timer to an MVP. Stan def knows how to get the job done as an OC (see Ball States 12-1 Season) We all know Brady doesn't wear a headset, so who do you think was in charge of that offense? I'll say it again, Eastern is getting a coach with some serious pedigree, my guess is Eastern only stood a chance since he has history with Coach English. Watch out for the Eagles in 2-3 years!
