MIDLAND -- The Huron High School boys tennis team is in the driver's seat after one day of the Division 1 state championships, but Birmingham Brother Rice and Pioneer are both in the front of the car, reaching for the wheel.

Huron scored 23 points Friday at the Midland Tennis Center, giving them a one-point advantage over Brother Rice and two over Pioneer.

The River Rats are still alive in seven of eight flights entering Saturday's 9 a.m. semifinals while Brother Rice can still score in six flights and Pioneer in five.

"Obviously there is a lot of tennis to play still. It's better to be in front than behind, but we still have a lot of work tomorrow," Huron coach Stefan Welch said. "It should be a good day of tennis." (Rest of story)
